This
first in a planned new series of Oklahoma State Council of Mineralogical
Society swaps saw a great turnout despite cold and breezy condition. Held
at the Old River Bridge Park on the Illinois River just east of Tahlequah
at the Hwy 10 and Hwy 51 Junction, there was plenty of room, access was
easy, and everyone enjoyed the river view. The swap was hosted courtesy of
the United Keetowah Band of Cherokees who own the property. A pavilion was available for shelter with picnic tables and electricity. All of this
was at no cost to the Council, Thank You! And thanks to Joe Bunch, Council
Vice President for making the arrangements!
The swap began
around 9:30am and continued until around 2:30 or so. The Council provided
hamburgers and hot dogs for Oficers and Delegates attending the Council
Meeting. We had more than enough to invite everyone present to partake,
and just threw a hardhat on the table for donations if anyone wished to
contribute. Immediately following lunch, the Council held it's meeting and
discussed business, the minutes of that meeting can be read HERE. As soon
as everyone had lunch, we conducted an auction of donated items, proceeds
to benefit the OSCMS Scholarship Fund. A candidate for the OSCMS
Scholarship was presented and voted on by the Board, and the scholarship
was passed, award to be presented at the December meeting of TRMS. Click
